Everyone Matters

Will information about my needs be treated confidentially?

Yes. It will only be shown to others who need to know in connection with your education in accordance with the Data Protection Act.

How will support be provided?

Support is provided in different ways, including dyslexia tutors, visual and hearing specialists and signers, advocacy, mentoring support for students with Aspergers, notetakers and learning support assistants. You may need:

  • Specialist support
  • Help 'on programme' within the group
  • Extra 1:1 sessions
  • Mentoring
  • Special equipment
  • Adaptation of materials.

I have to follow a special diet. What do I do?

I have mobility problems. Will I be able to get around the College easily?

At Guildford and Farnham Colleges there are lifts to upper floors. At Merrist Wood College all teaching is carried out at ground floor level. All Colleges have accessible toilets. Please contact us if you have an access issue so that we can be prepared and help to support you:

Is additional support provided?

Yes. There is funding for certain students to access the Additional Support Team. ALS provides support for a variety of learning difficulties and/or disabilities. Please let us know any support needs you have before coming to the College or applying for a course. You will be assessed for eligibility. For more information:

Can I have special arrangements for exams?

Yes. This could be in the form of extra time, use of a word processor, a scribe, modified exam papers, rest breaks, a separate room or someone to read the paper to you. The College must provide evidence that this is necessary and you may need to be assessed. Let us know as soon as possible so that we can request concessions with the appropriate exam board.
