Your accommodation in Guildford is one of the most important parts of your time here. A good home will help you settle into student life quickly and help you to succeed on your course. Guildford is an excellent place to live and study. It is just 40 minutes to central London and only minutes from the countryside so Guildford is the perfect base to be able to explore the towns and cities of England.
Where can I expect to live?
The majority of our Homestay families and Private accommodation are in Guildford or the nearby towns of Woking, Farncombe, Godalming, Shalford and Ash.
Guildford has a good transport system and all of these places have regular bus or train services into Guildford, with journey times usually between 10-20 minutes.
Living in Homestay accommodation:
Homestay family accommodation can vary enormously, they could be made up of a mother, father and their children or it could just be a single person living on their own and it may in either case include pets such as dogs and cats. Our main aim is to match you to a family that suits your requirements, however as each family differs you will need to learn the family routine in order to benefit from your stay.
Our Homestay accommodation is carefully selected but students will not always be offered their own single room and it may be necessary for you to share with another student of the same gender.
When living in Homestay accommodation you will be treated as much as possible as one of the family. You will be invited to join the family in having breakfast and an evening meal (lunch not included); however on some occasions you may be given the option to cook for yourself if members of the family have other commitments.
Private home accommodation:
In private home accommodation you will have less direct contact with the host(s) and may share the accommodation with more than four adult students. You may be given the option to board on a self catering basis; however the number of families offering this type of accommodation is very limited.
All of our Homestay accommodation is checked and monitored by the Accommodation Team who are responsible for students welfare and to ensure an acceptable standard of living is provided.
Before accommodation is sought all students are expected to pay £50 arrangement fee and £150 accommodation deposit, which will be refunded at the end of your stay provided your room is left clean, tidy and nothing has been damaged.
The Accommodation Office is open Monday to Friday between 8am and 5.30pm.
